Hey folks. It was time i dropped in here and updated you on what is going on. We lost a lot of you when we switched to the resurrection cars. I'm sure some of it was timing of the year and stuff like and some maybe didn't like the cars. Either way we were down to like 3 maybe 5 drivers some nights so I have put the league on hiatus. Now having stating the first part of the reason for doing so, here's the others. I've been burning too many candles at too many ends trying to make sure we keep our bills paid and all that great stuff called life in order. I honestly didn't have any time to devote to the league and I should have put the brakes on then, tho Tuesdays nights has always been my favorite part of the week. I love hanging with you guys, talking shit and getting some racing in here and there. I still want that to happen here. I'm just not sure what is the right approach. I'm going to open ideas up to you all and see what we can come up with. I know first and foremost I need to dedicate more time to the Series. Well so happens it looks like I'll have a 9 to 5 from at home career coming up in February, that is not going always busy during those 8 hours. I'll fill you all in more on that once it is locked down, but we are past the handshake part and working the logistics...so it looks good. I'm going to list some questions, please answer when you can. I'm looking to re-fire the engines here first of March. I'd like to have some time to get acquainted with my new gig. I'll be returning to SPAZCAR FB posts so everyone will be immediately in the loop. Also, I apologize if I let anyone down or didn't do something I said I was going to. If I have forgotten to do something I promised, please let me know OK? Anyways fill in the info below if you will. Thanks! Day of the week. Stick with Tuesday or? (Friday, Saturday & Sunday are out for me) Medium? (Do we want to continue with rF2 or something else? List your ideas) Weekly or Bi - Weekly? (With the new gig I'd be able to go back weekly) Open or Fixed sets?Points or no points or something in between?Open or locked servers?Anything I missed? Thanks for taking your time to read this and chime in. Appreciated and looking forward to your responses.

Day of the week. Stick with Tuesday or? Tuesday.
Medium? Doesn't matter.
Weekly or Bi - Weekly? Weekly.
Open or Fixed sets? Fixed.
Points or no points or something in between? Anything's fine.
Open or locked servers? Open, so we can try to get new drivers.
Anything I missed?

Honestly my absence had more to do with life getting hectic and I just got really really busy. So much to the point the last time my wheel was plugged in was whenever the last time I raced here was.
But anyways was definitely nothing to do with Spazcar because I definitely miss hanging out on Tuesday nights. I just got caught up with working 2 jobs and other things my schedule's so random its hard to plan around anything right now but ill try to at least hang out when I can whatever yal decide to run

Day of the week. Stick with Tuesday or? Tuesday, It's the one night I already have dedicated to SPAZCAR and never have any plans on.
Medium? I really do love the realism of rF2
Weekly or Bi - Weekly? This and setups goes hand in hand for me. In order to dedicate the extra time of working on setups I rely on that Tuesday night during the off week to be my setup building night and the night we all vote on which setup could be used, if we race weekly we technically use 2 nights every week because a setup has to be made for fixed setup races. So for me personally I think if it's fixed setup racing it should be bi-weekly and if open should be weekly.
Open or Fixed sets? See above
Points or no points or something in between? I would say for the way SPAZCAR is built as a league points are a bad idea. Points bring with them a championship and with that comes drama, team dynamics, dirty driving, and dirty tactics/strategies to intentionally screw over others all in the name of trying to grab more points over others. That can happen more so if there is also any prize on the line for the champion. In the spirit of hanging out having some fun racing with the guys points should be kept out.
Open or locked servers? Open until it starts causing problems, then lock it only on race nights. It would be ideal if you can set a message of the day with the discord link and forum link so when new people connect they know where to find more info.
Anything I missed? No.

well, for me I found that the last 2 years of spazcar has become very annoying and not a lot of real fun. we have a couple of drivers who have a bad case of verbal diarrhea and never shut up during races. the fact that we throw a caution flag every couple of laps is a great way to kill the fun and competition in my view. we constantly start much later than official startimes and wait for people who are not ready to go on time. As stated above point make people do stupid things. Spazcar used to be a great place to race for me because it was " Casually Competitive...Seriously Fun" racing. That is no longer true for me. These are my opinions, I will not argue them with anyone so don't try. Tuesday are good, everyone on same set up is good for those who do not have hours and hours to practice. Spazcar need to get back to it's roots and I believe many will get back on track. I know that since Ian moved to Las Vegas things have been much different as he deals with REAL life and I thank him for what he has been able to do here whilst being a very busy guy. anyway, if it all comes together and spazcar continues I will see you guys on track.

Open or locked servers? Open, so we can try to get new drivers. Anything I missed? Ditto here, I have a few suggestions though. One involves ditching the forums for discord (create a channel for announcements and try to use it as a Facebook group.) rf2 is probably our best bet to stick with, though it might bring more racers in if we occasionally run a fun (no points or bonus points) race with different cars every 4th week or so. Maybe limit the series to 12-16 weeks too. Moving to discord would allow us to leave an invite url in the server title for new racers to check out more easily.

Do you realize we get 35 give or take visitors a day on the forums? How is posting on Discord going to be able to reach as many people or search engines? The problem is we have a lazy bunch who dose not post anything and people come and look and think it's dead. Now explain to me how you can reach people not using the Discord program and I might buy into the idea, because running the forums for a group that dose not use it is getting old. Day of the week. Stick with Tuesday or? Anytime but Wednesday. Medium? Would like to stay with rF2, but really don't care. Weekly or Bi - Weekly? Either or.. Open or Fixed sets? Fixed always seems to be more fun on ovals, road courses can be either. Points or no points or something in between? Don't really care. Open or locked servers? Open until it becomes a problem. Anything I missed?

Because I haven't seen a forum be used frequently since 2008 when tons of forums were hacked. I can take a link (for example my discord link discord.gg/6skh2f) and share it around much easier. Discord has million of users nowdays and a good number of people wouldn't even have to sign up to join the channel. There's even a way to set your server so anyone can just type in a username, load up a website, and be in the channel. I bet posting a link to discord over a proboards forum will get more clicks in sim racing recruitment posts on FB or even in other discord servers. I get discord notifications where ever I go because I have the app on my smart phone, which makes it 10x more valuable (to me) than a forum I need to dig through settings to get notifications emailed to me.

You must not do much other then race. I play many games other then this, such as Spin Tires, FS17 and ATS. And the communities thrive on forums, you need info on the games, forums, looking for the best mods, forums, need help modding the games, you got it, forums. If you can play it in a group, it's got a forum page somewhere. Forums are the best way to get info out as long as people are willing to make a few clicks, and the forums today show you exactly where the new posts are, so no digging around is required. And Face Book is a type of forum, and not reliable for sending out info. I spent more time digging in face book for info on the SPAZCAR profile then on the forums, because it gets filled up with all the everyday garbage. And as far as getting notified by my smart phone, I only use it for calls and texts, when I'm at home it's on a charger and it stays there, I only use it when I'm out of the house. And I don't link nothing to it, that's why I have a PC. lol Face it, you hate forums personally. And I hate smart phones, lol. So we will never see eye to eye on this.

Forums fell out of favor around 2008 when a type of forum software was compromised by hacking. Facebook also happened to start taking off around then. Rfactor 1 groups by and large use Facebook for their main communication channel. Discord is more manageable than that even. If someone were to give me moderator status on discord I'll show you all just how handy it can be. I've seen communities of thousands on discord. From rfactor 2 (their official discord) and reddit's r/simracing official discord, to Garry's mod, factorio, and ARK. I'm not just a sim-racer. Discord is basically gaming focused IRC chat with built in voice chat.

And you keep saying "Forums fell out of favor around 2008" With who? Everyone I know online uses forums and has never said anything about that, and they're still using forums or forum based pages to do all the same stuff, so forums falling out of favor is a new one on me. In fact, you are the only person I've ever heard say that and or complain about forums. Not trying to be a dick or sound like one, but you're the only person I have ever heard say these things, and you say it as if it's common place. But Ian can and will decide the direction SPAZCAR takes, so it's really not up to us to decide.
